2nd Team Concede Match
Sep 2, 2015, 1:56 pm

Saturday 29th August saw the 1st team travel to Bates Cottages for a top of the table clash, Bates only needed 6 points to win the title. We won the toss and to our surprise the captain decided to bowl, Bates got off to a good start and saw off our opening bowlers before they both fell to the bowling of Cory Milburn, M. Golightly raised his arms and left a ball which hit middle and off stump he was out for 40 his partner was G. Turnbull was out for 35 caught by our wicket keeper Peacock. S. Collins was out caught off S. Maddison’s spin bowling for 25, J. Mavin hit a quick fire 27 he was out LBW to Dean Greaves.

P. Baston hit a quick fire 29 only after he was given a reprieve by the umpire after he was originally given out, but did not walk even thought he was given the finger of doom from the umpire he said to the umpire he did not hit it and it must of hit his stump, surprisingly the umpire change his mind and allowed him to stay at the crease to the bewilderment of the fielding team. The other main run scorer was C. Wood with 21 who was out stumped off the bowling of S. Maddison, the same fate fell as M. Elliott, sharp hands of keeper Peacock. Bates ended up all out on 231.

Our bowling D. Greaves 1 for 42, J. Richards 1 for 68, C. Milburn 4 for 48 and S. Maddison 4 for 60. Our run chase started badly losing our captain C. Harwood early on bowled by Baston on 5, his new opening partner Jay Little stole the show for the Rugger boys he went on to score a magnificent 72 our other scorer of any note was Cory Milburn who hit a fine 33 and he and Jay put on a great partnership. We fell short by 38 runs we were all out for 193.

Bates Cotages CC 30 points and Ashington Rugby CC 9 points.

Well done Bates for winning the league.

Our 2nd team were due to play Clara Vale and for the first time in a very long time we had to conceded we only had 6 players we had 23 cry offs, with holidays (bank Holiday weekend), work, playing rugby, going to the Newcastle match and injuries.

Weather hits again
Aug 26, 2015, 12:13 pm

Saturday 22nd August, our 1st Team were due to play Blyth CC at Blyth, however we received a phone call at 10.00am to say the game was off with water getting under their covers, this is now 4 games we have lost to the weather 3 of those we were either timed out or abandoned when we were in a winning positions, what is difference these points would have made to our league position we are sitting third only 4 points behind Tillside CC who have had no games cancelled due to the weather and they have lost 7 games and we have lost only 4 games. Just got to take the bad luck and pick ourselves up for the rest of the season.

Blyth CC 5 points Ashington Rugby CC 5 points

Our 2nd team were at home they welcomed Blyth CC to the REC, we lost the toss and Blyth batted first they posted 129 for 8 in their 40 overs, A. Rowell top scored for Blyth CC with 35. We lost early wickets and did not get going only Kevin (Tucker) Hetherington dug in with the bat he hit 42,we he was out so was our chance of winning the game we ended up all out on 93, Blyth’s Kevin Thompson took the honours with the ball he took 4 wickets for 18 runs. Blyth winning by 36 runs,a disappointing result for the Rugger Boys.

Ashington RCC 4 points Blyth CC 27 points.

1st Team highest score for season
Aug 17, 2015, 12:15 pm

Saturday 15th August saw Corbridge CC 1st team make the long travel to play at the “REC”

We had a delayed start due to traffic jam on the motorway, when we got under way we won the toss and elected to bat on a good looking track. We lost our opening bat and captain chasing a loose delivery outside of his off stump and was caught by Oliver from Hardy’s bowling whilst on 11. His partner Michael (Midge) Adamson was pushing the ball well into the gaps in the field playing some delightful shots, his new partner Adam Peacock also looked in great nick, and they both went past 50 in quick time.

At the drinks interval we had 169 on the board in 25 overs and a big scored looked on the card. Adam was out caught by the keeper off Gascoigne’s bowling trying to play the ball through the gully he finished out on 65, a 137 run 2nd wicket partnership. Scott Maddison was promoted up the order from his big score last week in the 2nd team he did not last long before being bowled on 6 from Gascoigne’s bowling. Into the crease came Matty Tanney who really punished the bowling attack and at the same time support Midge was by now was looking tried (all that running with small legs). Midget looked on the card for a three figure score when he was eventually out on 90 run out trying to pick up a quick single, they put on 84 for the 4th wicket partnership.

Matty continue attacking the bowling along with some quick running between the wicket with his new partner Cory Milburn, before Cory was out bowled by the Australian Kirchner on 4, Matty was eventually out on 63 when he pulled a short length delivery straight to the fielder behind square. We eventually posted our highest score of the season with 322 for 9. Corbridge’s bowling D. Hardy 1 for 61, J. Garett 0 for 34, M. Kirchner 3 for 63, H. Oliver 0 for 80, W. Gascoigne 2 for 33, J. Davidson 0 for 20 and C. Todd 2 for 11 with 64 extras.

Corbridge CC run chase started steady S. Walker and D. Smurthwaite before Walker was run out on 23, Smurthwaite was eventually out caught by Cory Milburn from Scot Maddison’s bowling on 40 runs after he was out the team lost a number of wickets before D. Hardy came in and bludgeoned his way to 35 before being bowled by Richards. Corbridge was all out for 144 in 35 overs, thus giving the Rugger boys victory by 178 runs, which pushed our points total to 376 our highest ever in the premier league, great win with the game played in a great spirt.

Even John Maude saw the funny side on things when a voice from the fielding side asked if Rolf Harris had being given day release for the game; (John was bent over with laughter along with the majority of the fielding side) John said at least it wasn’t Gerry Adams which he normally gets.

Ashington Rugby CC 30 points Corbridge 6 points

Our 2nd team was away at Churchill Playing Fields playing Monkseaton CC, we won the toss and scored 176 for 5, S. Henderson hit 64 not out along with Ryan Pringle who hit 38 not out they put on a 90 run un-broken partnership. Monkseaton CC run chase finished at on 143 for 6 in their 40 over allocation, K. Elliott 35, S. Maguire 36 and J. Durkin 36. Trevor Elliott lead the bowling with 4 wickets for 15 runs. It’s great to see our 2nd team turning out a string side and it is showing with the results. Well done boys.

2nd Team declare and win
Aug 12, 2015, 12:08 pm

Saturday 8th August saw the first team travel to Kirkley CC on a warm but breezy day; we won the toss and elected to bat on a green iffy looking pitch, which turned out to be 2 paced with uneven bounce. Captain Chris Harwood opened up with Michael Adamson and they put on an 100 odd run partnership before Michael was dismissed caught on 45, Chris followed not long later after he had just reached his 50 bowled by Richie. We had some small partnerships but nothing of any note Adam Peacock once again was in the runs when on 41 he tried to run the ball down to third man but hit it too fine and was dismissed caught behind by wicket keeper Douse. Other run scorers D. Hardy 2, M. Tanney 17, C. Milburn 17, P. Milburn 18, J. Little 11 caught by our captain who was fielding as a sub for Kirkley with them having a player injured with a hamstring injury. G. Whitworth 1, D. Graves 9 and 29 extras gave us a score of 240 all out after 48 overs. Kirkley CC bowling A. Ball 1 for 23, J. Singh 2 for 52, A. Storey 2 for 56, J. Richie 1 for 37, J. Ball 4 for 46.

Kirkley CC run chase started slowly and we did not make a break through until Cory Milburn came on and dismissed C. Johnson for 12 with a sharp delivery which hit his glove and was caught by wicket keeper Peacock with the ball still rising, it would have went for a 6 if not taken. C. Rowe and A. Storey batted well in a good partnership which was hard to break up, eventually Storey was out on 45 caught little going for another boundary, and Rowe was out on 53 bowled by Greaves not long later, the tail wagged for Kirkley with C. Farrelly scoring 48 before being bowled, special mention to 14 year old J. Singh who beyond his years held his end and was not out on 2 a great effort by the young man. Kirkley were all out with the score on 201. The Rugger boys winning by 39 runs.

Our bowlers who took wickets were D. Greaves 4 for 42, G. Whitworth 1 for 59, C. Milburn 1 for 47, J. Richards 2 for 51.

Kirkley CC 10 points and Ashington Rugby CC 30 points.

Our second team entertained Corbridge CC at the “REC” on a belter of a wicket we won the toss and elected to bat, we scored runs with ease and had 3 players who hit big 50’s Scott Maddison with 86, Liam Lavery with 78 and Jonny Richards with 76, we ended up declaring on 279 for 3 after 29.3 overs out of the 40 over allocation. Corbridge CC set off at the run chase with gusto with H. Oliver hitting a quick fire 51 before losing his wicket after that, the wickets fell in quick succession leaving Corbridge all out on 100. Ashington Rugby CC winning by 179 runs.

One point of note hats off to Corbridge for bringing a weakened team with a number of juniors and the same to our side who did not want to see the young lads chase leather around the field as they felt we had enough to win the match which proved correct.

Our bowlers who did the damage were Trevor Elliot 3 for 27 and Scott Maddison with 3 for 2.

Both teams win
Aug 4, 2015, 1:27 pm

Saturday 1st August saw second placed Tillside CC arrive at the REC for our 1st Team clash with us sitting in third place. We lost the toss and surprisingly we were put into bat, another steady start by our openers Chris Hardwood with 22 and Michael Adamson with 39. Adam Peacock was looking good before being given out LBW for 45 off the bowling of Whitty, Dean Hardy 12, Matty Tanney 9, Cory Milburn was dismissed with an absolutely fantastic catch probably the best ever seen at our ground, Cory hit a big straight shot over the top of the bowlers head only to see Jack Birkett chase it down and dive full length with the ball coming over his head taking the catch diving towards the boundary line, landing only a few feet inside the boundary line, everyone at the game spectators and all our players stood up and applauded “Outstanding”. Our other runs came from P. Milburn 19 and Jay Little 21, we ended up all out chasing more runs, with the score on 228 with only 1 ball left.

Tillside CC bowling L. Dixon 2 for 38, L. Hindmarsh 1 for 20, M. Whitty 4 for 79, C. Robertson 2 for 30 and J. McDonald 1 for 17, with 37 extras. Tillside’s run chased was halted early on with some fine tight bowling by our openers D. Greaves and G. Whitworth, only 2 Tillside players scored in double figures L. Hindmarsh 28 and M. Whitty 14. Tillside were all out for 82, we won by 146 runs and massive victory against a good side. Our bowlers who did the damage was Dean Greaves who bowled unchanged in his 13 overs taking 5 wickets for 24 runs, Graham Whitworth 10 overs 2 for 25, James Richards 2 for 24 and Cory Milburn 1 for 5.

Ashington Rugby CC 30 points Tillside CC 5 points.

Our 2nd team still struggling for numbers were looking for some cheer and that is what they got at Whitley Bay when we won the toss and elected to bowl and we bowled the Bay out for 84 runs only Harris made a noteable score with 30 runs, Trevor Elliott took 4 for 20, Steven Henderson 3 for 7, we reached the total with only 2 wickets down Liam Lavery top scored with 32 and Bernie Tanney hit a good 28 opening the bat. Great win after a trying 3 or 4 weeks.

Bad luck with weather (again)
Jul 30, 2015, 12:11 pm

Saturday 25th July, Our 1st Team was away at Blue Flames CC, we had 3 regular 1st team players missing including our Captain and Vice-Captain. On an day which was overcast with rain forecasted later on, we were very surprised when we inspected the wicket only to find that it had be scarified with deep groves in the track, (just like you would do for your end of season work) the toss was very important, our stand in captain Graham Whitworth called wrong and you guessed it we were put into bat. Our openers were parted early on when captain Whitworth was caught on 0, his partner Michael Adamson was steady in his 20 before he fell LBW to Purvis, Adam Peacock batted well on this wicket and was going along great when he was out on 54 off spinner Amin. We welcomed back Matty Tanney from his 18 month’s sabbatical he scored 7 bowled by Purvis with a real gem of a delivery. Dean Hardy batted well for a steady 23, Jay Little kept up his good form with a good 18 not out, Dean Greaves hit a lusty straight 6. We ended up 167 all out not a bad effort on a wicket where the bounce was up and down. The Blue Flames bowlers who took wickets were D. Purvis 3 for 50, F. Amin 2 for 23, C. Myers 2 for 27 and A. Khan 1 for 14.

The rain came at tea time and the Flames who had just had covers delivered and they did not have the hoses fitted, they eventually pushed them on the wicket after a little while of rain, they fitted the hoses, however they did not pull over the joining flaps and when the rain stopped the rain had seeped between each joint and this delayed the play for quite a while.

We eventually got started with only 1 hour and 15 minutes to bowl our overs we decided to give it a right good blast and hope we could remove some early wickets. This we did with Captain Whitworth bowling a good line and length with bounce which caused the flames batters all sorts of problems, it took a little while to remove the openers but when we did, we took wickets a regular intervals, only their Captain Awan scored any runs of note with 31 not out and some of this was hitting with a big back swing, which we did not mind. We took 4 wickets in the last 4 overs with 3 of these falling in 9 balls, the final 2 wickets fell on the 3rd and 4th delivery of the final over meaning we had 2 balls to blow them all out. This was a great effort by the Rugger lads taking 9 wickets in 27 overs before we were timed out at 8pm.

This was a real disappointment to get so close but still be so far away. This is now the third time we have had this fate with the weather preventing what looked like 3 wins. If we had another 2 or 3 overs we felt we had the game won or even another 15 minutes, and if the covers flaps had been fitted correctly we could have easily come away with a win.

Our bowlers who took wickets D. Greaves 3 for 32, G. Whitworth 3 for 17, and J. Richards 3 for 9 (including 2 in 2 balls).

Blue Flames CC 10 points Ashington Rugby CC 12 points (Match Drawn)

Our 2nd team entertained Blue Flames CC; still struggling to field a team we had 5 none cricketers in our ranks, we decided to blow on a wicket which looks a road full of runs. Blue Flames were happy to bat and they certainly made hay scoring 237 for 4 off their 40 overs, Z. Ahmed 62, A. Horner 51, S. Taylor 48 and D. Taylor 36. We scored 136 all out with only 9 wickets down; L. Lavery 30 and R. Pringle 31 were our only runs scorers of any merit. Blue Flames main bowling danger was Z. Ahmed following his 62 runs with the bat he then took 6 wickets for 31. We ended up losing by 101 runs.

Jul 23, 2015, 10:53 pm

Great news for the Rugger boys who welcome back Matty Tanney after 18 months from Bedlington CC.

We must be doing something right when players leave and then return back to our club.

Great to have you back Matty!!!!!!
