This is a great honour for the club to be nominated by our own league for this award, it just goes to show how far our club has come, we are not only recognised by the visiting players, umpires and but also our Senior League Management Committee. Paul Milburn collected the award at the groundsmans presentation evening held at Benwell Hill Cricket Club on Monday 13th December. Sep 10, 2010, 6:22 am Paul has been a member of this club for over 20 years, he is currently Chairman and has been for 15 years he also shares the role as Treasurer and has done so for approximately 10 years. Paul is our grounds man and has been for 4 years since our previous grounds man retired, he stepped in as we had no one else who would do this job and he knew if he did not do it the club would struggle. He spends a great deal of his time at our ground, he can always be found at our ground Monday to Friday between 5.30pm till 9.30pm and on a Saturday morning he is there from 8am till 11:30am, just before he dashes away to play for the club. Paul has taken a number of grounds man courses and this has been shown by the quality facilities he provides, back in 2008 the club won Northumberland Cricket League Cricket Ground of the year and then was awarded joint winners for Northumberland. He often takes holidays and has his lunch at our ground just to put in the little bit of extra work to have it as good as he can get it. Paul was the instrumental driving force behind our club setting up our junior section 3 years ago; he is our only level 2 Coach, he is keen to give a little bit back to the younger generation to the sport he loves. He coaches on Friday nights from 6pm till 7:30pm. Paul is also our grant expert and without him our club would not have the machinery or the facilities it has now. Basically he is the driving force behind every thing our club does and all he wants is for our club to develop, give the younger generation a chance to play, for our club to play in the sprit of the game and to have and to keep it’s good reputation. Paul also organises our fund raising events and looks for sponsorship, he is our ultimate volunteer and he leads by example with everything he does for our club. Paul was nominated by Dean Hardy Cricket Club Secretary and his wife Alison. Photo taken in the Colin Milburn Lounge at the Riverside, Durham CCC. Aug 20, 2010, 10:47 pm Cramlington were the visitors on Wednesday 18th August, Ash won the toss and decided to bat on a damp track we got off to a good start with Callum Milburn and Scott Maddison picking up quick runs early on. Scott miss judge a throw from a fielder and was run out on 11, Callum followed shortly after on 23. James "Jimbo" Lovatt certinally "loved it" the bowling he smashed 31 in quick time with some lusty blows including 2 - 6's. At the end on the 16 overs our score stood at 113. Cramlington got off to a good start with openers Bouch hitting 38 not out and Aussie Hammond hitting a quick fire 26 before he fell to Wanless Jnr. Barras took the other wicket to fall to bowling when Wanles Jnr caught captain Pulman on 7, leaving Roe to be run out on 19 cashing the total, up to the last 4 overs Cramlington were requiring 10 an over and did well with some fine hitting to get to 103 at the end of their 16 overs. It must be someting about this shield that our club likes as we have won it in 2003, 2007, 2008, 2009 and now 2010. Well done boys!!!!!!!!
