Weather the winner again........
Aug 4, 2008, 8:25 pm
Saturday saw both 1st & 2nd team games called off due to heavy thunderstorms as the summer of discontent continued.

On Thursday the 2nds take on Clara Vale in the re scheduled Planet Trophies Cup Final at the Rec minus skipper Steve Henderson, Rob Clark leads a side hampered by unavailability, before both sides face Stobswood on Saturday with the 1st XI having home advantage.

Young Guns make mark!
Jul 28, 2008, 10:56 am
Saturday saw both teams collect maximum points, the 1sts at home to Tynemouth and the 2nds away at Monkseaton.

15 Year old David Wanless jnr took 5 wickets for the 2nds to further push his 1st team credentials in an 8 wicket victory with Mick Hudson and Robert Clark scoring the bulk of the runs in a comfortable victory.

At the same time time 16 year old Matty Storey scored a blistering 41 not out to see the 1st team home by 5 wickets after an early wobble.  Batting 1st Tynemouth made 157 all out, Dean Greaves bowling well to collect four wickets along with Paul Milburn & Matty Tanney who took 2 apiece.  Matty Storey picked up a wicket in an economical 13 over spell and a sharp run out by Midge Adamson accounted for the other wicket to fall.  Hymers top scored for Tynemouth with a patient 70.

The Northern reply began quite well but 3 quick wickets left them 32 for 3 leaving Skipper Harwood with 41 and Dean Hardy 29 to rebuild the innings.  Once They departed it was left to Storey to see the Northen through ably supported by a dogged 3 not out form Callum Milburn on his 1st team league debut!

Tynemouth to arrive
Jul 24, 2008, 8:33 am
The 1st XI take on Tynemouth this Saturday at the Rec looking to make up for a dissapointing defeat last weekend against Blagdon.

Earlier in the season Northern enjoyed a comfortable 100+ run victory against Saturdays opponents in the shadow of Collingwood monument.  However a club of Tynemouths size & stature should never be underestimated and Northern know they need to be at their best to secure a victory and retain their current league position.

15 Year old county batsmen Callum Milburn will make his 1st team league debut as Duncan Storey is unavailable while Andy Matthews retains his place after an impressive display last weekend.  Martin Seccombe is still recovering from his broken metatarsal and Midge Adamson should play despite impending paternal duties!

This weekend sees no fewer than 5 players aged 17 or below representing the 1st XI which is believd to be a first in the clubs history.  This emphasises a shift in priorities of the club recently and displays their willingness to promote youth, hopefully this bodes well for the future!

Incidentally for those who didn't know!

'Cuthbert Collingwood is known as "the Northumbrian who saved the nation", but he's also a forgotten North East hero.

He's the man who saved the British Navy together with his close friend Horatio Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar.

His devotion to duty was such that even after Trafalgar he continued to ensure that Britain ruled the waves in the 18th and early 19th Centuries.'

Enid Farmer Cup Final Tonight at Rec
Jul 24, 2008, 8:20 am
Tonight sees Kirkley Take on Cramlington in the final of the Enid Farmer cup at the Rec.  B1 Kirkley will start as favourites against their lower division opponents who will be looking to continue their good progress since moving from Wallsend to Cramlington several years ago.

The league approached the Northern committee about the possibilty of hosting the cup final which they were happy to oblige after good reports from Umpires and Players alike about the state of the playing facilities at the Rec througout this season.  Credit must go solely to groundsman Paul Milburn and his assistants for this accolade which reflect the hard work he has put in over the last 3 years.  It's much appreciated Paul, keep up the good work!

The weather is set fair so lets hope for a good game and a good turn out!

Blagdon Triumph in Damp affair
Jul 24, 2008, 8:09 am
The 1sts went down by 14 runs on Saturday against promotion chasing Blagdon in a soggy affair at the Rec.  Harwood won the toss & inserted Blagdon in a 35 overs a side encounter after early morning showers had put the game in doubt.

Blagdon made 142 for 8 in their alloted overs with James Richards being the pick of the bowlers returning figures of 3 for 28 from his alloted 9, Dean Greaves picked up a further 2 and Andy Matthews took a wicket in an impressive spell on his 1st 1st team game of the season.  For Blagdon opener Gibson batted doggedly for 37 and a breezy 37 from Tallyntyre were the highlights.

Northerns reply never really got going despite 32 from Milburn who was harsly adjudged LBW and 22 from Midge Adamson.  Some good late order hitting from Matty Tanney in a seasonal best 21 got Northern an extra batting point meaning they accumulated 1 more point than they would have done had the game been rained off.

A dissapointing defeat against a Blagdon side not at full strength puts to bed any lingering promotion hopes the 1st might have had, however after the recent weather all 22 players were keen to get a game and the right decision was made in the end.

Blagdon in town
Jul 19, 2008, 7:30 am
Both teams will hope to get back on track this weekend after a rain interupted week.  The 2nds make the short journey to take on Cramlington CC at the high school after their cup final was cancelled on Thursday due to inclement weather.  Stevie Henderson has a fully fit squad to choose from with the exception of Andy Matthews who has been promoted and may include Ian Fox.

After being saved by the weather at Berwick last week the 1sts take on old rivals Blagdon at the rec with Lewis Tanney making way for left arm seamer Andy Matthews to make his seasonal bow.  Martin Seccombe misses the game due to broken a metatarsal (tart) sustained in mysterious circumstances.

2nd Team Cup Final
Jul 17, 2008, 4:33 pm
The 2nd team take on Clara Vale tonight in their divisional cup final at the Rec.

Stevie Henderson's men will start as 2nd favourites after losing twice this season to their opponents Clara Vale in the league in 2 tight encounters.

However after winning the toss and claiming home advantage hopes are high that they can upset the form guide can bring home the pot!

All club members are urged to go along and support the lads!
