Nov 5, 2017, 7:52 pm Our cricket square had its first aeration since the end of season renovations today 5th November. Aeration helps the square with drainage, getting air in the soil and it also supports the grass root system. We try to do our aeration at different depth each year so not to have the root zone at one depth, which can cause problems. Oct 31, 2017, 11:29 pm Following the end of season work (big thank you to our Groundsman and Dean Greaves who helped out) where we once again invested heavily in improving our square, with 3.5 tonnes of Surrey loam and 4 bags of seed along with the fertiliser and the green on granules treatment. The square is looking very good the best grass coverage we have ever had; our groundsman was looking pleased when he was over last Saturday to cut the square grass down as it had grown so much. Next job sometime soon will be the aeration of the square when the weather is right with the square being firm enough to get our machine on without causing any damage. Oct 31, 2017, 11:21 pm We have booked Bede School in Blyth again for 10 weeks starting Monday 29th January 7:30pm till 8:30pm. More information will come out nearer the time. Oct 23, 2017, 10:09 pm We host Chorley Cricket Club from the Lancashire Northern Premier Cricket League on Sunday 8th April 2018. They are coming up to the North East to play South Northumberland CC on Saturday 7th April and then coming to the "REC" to play the Rugger boys the next day. Former Chorley player Adam Peacock was instrumental in this fixture being organised. It is early in April so we all know what the weather can be like, so if the game cannot be played I am sure the Chorley lads will be up for a session in the club house. Oct 8, 2017, 6:21 pm Time is running out to book seats for Presentation Night on November 4th and the chance to listen to Guest Speaker Ronnie Irani. Tickets must be ordered before 21st October. Please contact your Chairman ASAP if you want to attend. Oct 8, 2017, 6:11 pm Our Chairman gave a presentation on Tuesday 3rd October in the council chambers and the Town Council agreed to support our cricket club.
It is fantastic news knowing that we have been supported by our own council and they also know who we are, what we do and that we have been playing cricket at the Recreation Ground since 1983, and that we are very proud to have Ashington in our club name.
It means a great deal to our small cricket club to have the councils support, it is hard to put it into words what this really means to us, the support also give us some reassurance financially, which is nice to have.
