24th May 2014 saw Corbridge visit the “REC” for a game against our 1st Team another match which we had a poor forecast, we lost the toss again and were put into bat and we soon hit problems, and without Mick Nicholson, Adam Peacock and Chris Harwood our batting line was a lot weaker, we were in problems when the game was called off for rain we were 46 for 6 wickets off 24 overs with only Paul Milburn staying at the crease for any length of time.

Corbridge bowled well David Hardy 12 overs 2 wickets for 14 runs, Mark Ryan 9 overs 2 wickets for 25 runs and Trustram Douglas 3 overs 2 wickets for 1 run.

Points Ashington Rugby CC 5 points and Corbridge 8 points.

Ex Player top scores

Saturday 27th April – 1st Team at home to Gateshead Ethnic Minorities Society (GEMS) the match was reduced to 45 overs with a later start due to rain. Ashington Rugby won the toss and elected to bowl. Zhoaib Shahid seemed to play a shot to each ball moving on quickly to 52 before being caught by Ryan Hogg off James Richards. Once Zhoaib was out the rugger boys made headway in the wicket column with regular break throughs. James Richards took 6 wickets for 60 runs off his 12 overs and Dean Greaves took 2 for 21 off his 7.4 overs. Gems where eventually all out for 151 off 36.4 overs.

The rugger boys got off to a slow start with early wickets of Nicholson for 0 and Harwood for 9 did not help however in came Adam Peacock who along with Dean Hardy who steadied the ship. Both took a while to get going and after 22 overs we were only 45. Then we started to take control and Adam Peacock looked a class above with some wonderful stroke making and big hitting, he went on to score 108 before being stumped looking to score the winning runs. Dean Hardy did a good job at the other end giving up strike and supporting Adam, Dean finished 19 not out. We won the game in the 39 over.

Ashington Rugby CC 30 points and GEMS 3 points.

Our 2nd team travelled to Ulgham CC to play their 1st team, we were put into bat and made a decent score of 170 for 6 off 45 overs. Jonny Richards top scored with 75, Graham Pattinson 24, Michael Watson 14.

Ulgham 1st reached the total with 2.1 overs to spare only losing 4 wickets with ex-player Bobby Dodd’s top scoring with 78 not out supported by Mark Plumber with 39. Scott Maddison took 3 wickets for 42 runs off 10 overs.
