Hard work paid offf
Jul 10, 2014, 7:12 am

Saturday 5th July 2014 we found our ground flooded after the dry weather, we were just about to call the game off at 8:30am when we decided to give it a go to remove the large amount of ground water at the bottom end of our ground. Thanks to Dean Greaves, Michael Adamson, Chris Harwood and Paul Milburn they ended up removing approx. 40 to 50 barrow loads of water. We then spiked the wet areas with the aerator to help the wet areas to dry out quicker.

We got the game on which was a 1st team fixture against Blagdon we won the toss and put them into bat we bowled well and all our bowlers had the ball seaming all over the place beating the edge on numerous occasions and James Richards took 4 wickets, Lewis Tanney 2 wickets and Cory Milburn 2 wickets only 1 Balgdon batsman really got going and that was Shaun Collins who was eventually run out by Mick Nicholson when on 62, they finished with 152 all out.

We started our chase with Mick Nicholson attacking right from the start, he got on top of their bowlers who did not have an answer he plundered 88 not out in our run chase with Adam Peacock hitting 41 we won by 8 wickets.

Ashington RCC 30 points and Blagdon CC 4 points (Great win worth all the hard work in the morning to get the game on)

2nd team was away to Hebburn CC we lost the toss and they batted at one stage they were 81 for 0 wickets eventually they fell 158 all out Liam Lavery did the damage with 5 wickets for 12 runs in 5 overs (spin bowling). Some good tight bowling by David Wanless Snr and Trevor Elliott did a good job before Liam did his bit.

We lost an early wicket before we started to build a few small partnerships but we kept losing wickets to rash shots giving our wickets away only Paul Milburn with 44, Steven Parsons and Craig Jobson with some lusty hits got us to within 30 runs but we could not get any closer than the mid-120s.

Hebburn CC 28 points and Ashington RCC 7 points

Both sides lose in close contests
Jun 23, 2014, 12:09 pm

Saturday 21st June saw our 1st team travel to Clara Vale for our Premier League fixture, we lost the toss and Clara batted first they put on a big score of 271 all out. As Clara normally do they went for it right from the start and carried quite a bit of luck but they also hit the ball well especially M. Rehan who scored 94 with others chipping in with 20’s. Our pick of the bowlers was Dean Greaves 4 wickets for 37 runs off his 13 overs and James Richards with 3 wickets for 64 runs.

When we set about our runs chase we lost C. Harwood early on with a smart catch down the leg side from their keeper, our pick of the batters was Dean Hardy with a workman like performance with 75 before being run out all of our players got started Mick Nicholson 25, Adam Peacock with 31, Ryan Hogg with 24, Cory Milburn with 56. Only to fall 5 runs short, finishing 266 for 7 wickets, a great effort but not quite enough.

Clara Vale CC 28 Points and Ashington Rugby CC 10 points (maximum for losing)

The 2nd team entertained Cramlington CC 1st team in a Division 1 clash at the “REC”. Cramlington won the toss and batted the Rugger boys took regular wickets and prevented Cramlington from building any partnerships. The pick of the bowlers was David Wanless Snr who took 5 wickets for 26 runs off his 12 overs and Steven Henderson who took 2 wickets for 26 runs. Cramlington had a good final wicket partnership of 50 runs which pushed their score from 91 for 9 to 141 all out.

When the Rugger boys took to the crease to chase the total we lost early wickets and never really got going eventually falling all out for 105 pick of the batters was Graham Pattinson with 18 runs, really disappointing as we felt we had more than enough to pick off the target, praise must go the Cramlington bowlers who bowled well. B. Walker 3 wickets for 29 runs, B. Cuthbertson with 3 wickets for 29 runs and A. Livingston with 3 wickets for 5 runs. Cramlington won by 36 runs.

Ashington Rugby CC 6 points and Cramlington CC 27 points.

Midweek Win

Wednesday 11th June saw Kirkley CC bring their midweek team to the "REC" for an important fixture with our team sitting second top of the league. Kirkley won the toss and elected to bat a number of players made small contributions to their score which finished 104 all out.

We started the run chance losing 3 important wickets without making much of an in road to the total we were chasing. Not until Ryan Hogg (Like a cat on a hot tin roof running between the wickets) got going did we have any glimer of hope Ryan hit an unbeaten 37 and help from Brad Higgins pushed the score along we went from having no chance with 4 overs left with needing 7 runs from the final over, we only needed 4 balls and fittingly Hoggy hit the winning runs.
