Very poor day for 1st team
Aug 19, 2016, 6:47 pm

Our 1st team travelled to Backworth CC for a top of the table clash, we were without our two pace bowlers Cory Milburn on holiday and James Richards still out injured and Paul Milburn was also injured, we won the toss and elected to bat. The wicket did quite a bit and Backworth bowled well, and we did not bat well, not a single player scored 20 runs, C. Harwood 19, Callum Milburn 16 and Andrew (Beefy) Storey 16 we were all out for 99 runs in only 25.3 overs, where was the application!!!!!!!!!!!

Backworth easily chased our total down in 26.3 overs only losing 1 wicket, Alan Robson top scored for Backworth he played well for his 65 not out.

Very bad day for the team 0 points, this left us just 1 point clear at the top of the league with 3 teams closing the gap.

Our 2nds entertained Backworth CC 2nds we scored 93 for 9 and Backworth reached their target for the loss of only 4 wickets.

Back to winning ways
Aug 7, 2016, 9:52 pm

Saturday 6th August 2016 our first team entertain Berwick CC at the REC with still 3 key players missing due to holidays and injury, we lost the toss on a hot day and the wicket looked like a road you guessed it we ended up bowling. One good bit of news was the new signing of Andrew (Beefy) Storey a quality wicket keeper batsman who signed from Kirkley CC a great addition to the team.

We removed early wickets and kept putting pressure on Berwick and it wasn’t until M. Emery and R. Davison came together did they occupy the crease, M. Emery score 42 and Davison 26, once they were out we contained the scoring but we just couldn’t get them all out they finished 140 for 9.

Our bowlers who took wickets Dean Greaves 13 overs 3 wickets for 22 runs, Cory Milburn 13 overs 2 wickets for 42 runs and Scott (The Wicket Burglar) Maddison 12 overs 4 wickets for 25 runs.

Our openers David Dent and Matty Tanney set off like and run away train hitting poor balls to the boundary our 1st wicket fell at 85 when Matty Tanney was out on 31 he hit 5 fours in his total our next wicket fell with the score on 99 and that was Adam Peacock out for 13, in came Paul Milburn who batted through with David Dent who looked in great nick ended up not out on 64 with 12 fours and Paul not out for 20 with 3 fours the game was finished in the 28th over with 21 overs to spare. 140 was not enough on the great batting track with a very fast outfield.

Ashington Rugby CC 29 points and Berwick CC 3 points.

Our 2nd team was away to Monkseaton CC with a weakened team we batted first and hit 152 Kevin Hetherington top scored with 31. Monkseaton was out for 82 our bolwers Ryan Pringle 3 wickets for 9 runs, David Wanless Snr 4 wickets for 12 runs and David Wanless Jnr  3 wickets for 19 runs, it was good to see our team getting back to winning ways it has been a tough 5 weeks with as many players being away on holiday’s.

Monkseaton CC 6 points and Ashington Rugby CC 29 points.

Both teams lose
Aug 7, 2016, 9:27 pm

Saturday 30th July 2016 saw our first team travel to Warkworth CC with still 4 key players missing due to holidays, injury and a wedding, we won the toss and elected to bat and things were going good until Matty Tanney ran himself out with the score on 38, his opening partner David Dent was next out with the total on 44 both openers scoring 21 each. We lost 2 more wickets quickly with the score on 68, it wasn’t till father and son Paul and Cory Milburn came together that some stability came to our innings, Cory also gave his dad something to think over when he smashed a ball back at his dad who was at the other end, he hit him in the side and knocked his dad off his feet, when the game got going again after a break to let Paul gather himself to continue. Cory was the next one out on 26 with our total on 120 we lost regular wickets and Paul lost partners he was last on out on 50 with our total on 157.

They started the chase with 2 wickets down in 5 overs with 17 on the board, they had a partnership of 50 before we took a few more wickets. Cory Milburn bowled very well and quickly and caused Warkworth batters all sorts of problems, we were just to light with our bowling and we didn’t have enough on the day and Warkworth ended up victors on the day in the 48 over with 7 wickets down, Billy Pringle not out on  34 and C. Glass on 18.

Our bowlers who took wickets Dean Greaves 13 overs 1 wicket for 24 runs, Cory Milburn 13 overs 5 wicket for 39 runs and Trevor Elliott 10 overs 1 wicket for 22 runs.

Warkworth CC 28 points and Ashington Rugby CC 6 points.

A weak 2nd team lost to Bomar.

Mixed fortunes
Jul 27, 2016, 12:57 pm

Saturday 23rd July, our first team entertain Kirkley CC at the REC, for once we won the toss and elected to bat of a good looking hard wicket. On a day when we were without 4 key players Lewis Tanney, Matty Tanney, James Richards and Scott (The wicket Burglar) Maddison. Stu Rosser was caught and bowled on 2 early on and then we lost Dean Hardy for 1 soon after, David Dent stemmed the flow of wickets for a while before he was out on 20, with the total on 30 for 3 wickets.

This brought together Adam Peacock and Michael Adamson, they played very sensibly early on playing and leaving when required, after they got themselves in the score started to pick up with some glorious boundary’s from both players, Adam especially looked in great form, the next wicket down was Michael he was on 47 with the partnership score of 170 runs, he played a great foil to Adam who continued to play the ball around the outfield with aplomb. Adam was eventually out for 124 a fantastic effort, I am sure his girlfriend will come back as his lucky charm if he plays like that when she is watching.

Chris Harwood added to the score with his 23 not out leaving us with a total of 260 for 7 off our 50 overs.

Kirkley’s run chased started poorly with Cory Milburn taking a wicket early on and his opener was out for only 13, this however brought the youngster E. Ragibir to the wicket, he was hit early on by Cory who did not feel comfortable bowling at him in case he hurt the youngster and this knocked us sideways as we lost our way for a number of overs. The youngster who no doubt will be a start for the future was eventually out for 17 after occupying the crease for a long time. Kirkley’s star was Andrew (Beefy) Storey who plundered 94 before falling to the bowling of David Dent, once Beefy was out we started to take wickets on a regular basics. Kirkley were eventually all out for 197 with 1 over to spare.

Our bowling who took wickets were Dean Greaves 1 wicket or 33 runs, Cory Milburn 5 wickets for 55 runs, David Dent 4 wickets for 45 runs.

Ashington Rugby CC win by 63 runs and take 30 points and Kirkley CC 7 points.

This win kept the Rugger boys at the top of the league with 29 points gap to 2nd place Tillside CC who also had a good win and collected maximum points.

Our 2nd team had to conceded their match away at Tillside CC who were top of the league and we were sitting in 2nd place, we tried in vain but could not get a team out we could only muster 6 players which is not a bad effort when you consider, the 2nd team had 5 players not available and the 1st team took 3 players to cover the players they had missing. We also had the issue of one of the rugby players wedding and a number of our players we had signed on for cover were at the wedding altogether we had 17 players not available for whatever reason. Apologies to Tillside we did try and we would have travelled with the 8 players but we could not find 2 more.

Rugger boys take the points in a top of the table clash
Jul 17, 2016, 7:52 pm

Saturday 16th July saw the Rugger lads take the long journey to Etal to play Tillside CC, with both clubs sharing top spot of the Northumberland Premier League with 245 apiece. We lost the toss and Tillside elected to bat we opened up with Dean Greaves and James Richards and as Tillside normally do run quick singles however they lost their 1st wicket of Liam Hindmarsh run out when they pushed a ball into point only for Cory Milburn to pick up and launch a rocket throw back and hit the only stump he could see leaving Hindmash 1 yard short to the jubilation of the Rugger boys. Tillside took the score to 39 before losing their next wicket to Richards, we kept on taking wickets at a regular intervals along with some tight bowling, Tillside last 4 wickets fell for only 1 run leaving them all out on 74 after 34.4 overs.

What a fantastic effort by our bowlers and fielders, our bowling; Dean Greaves 8 overs, 2 wickets for 21 runs, James Richards 13 overs, 3 wickets for 28 runs, Scott (The Wicket Burglar)Maddison 10 overs, 1 wickets for 15 runs and Cory Milburn 4.4 overs, 3 wickets for 8 runs.

We knew we could not give Tillside an early wicket to boost their confidence; however M. Tanney fell for 5 with only 17 on the board chasing a wide delivery. M. Adamson came in at 3 and he held it together with captain Harwood picking off the odd run but the main point was not giving a chance, M. Adamson was caught on 8 with 46 on the board. Harwood’s new partner was A. Peacock with the score on 48 Harwood edged a ball to slip who took a magnificent one handed catch. Next man in was L. Tanney he and Peacock saw us home for the loss of only 3 wickets after only 27 overs, Peacock 19 not out and Lewis Tanney 14 not out.

Brilliant win for the club this win saw us go 29 points clear at the top of the league.

Must give big praise the tea by far the best tea we have had for a long time, big thank you to the tea ladies and Tillside CC for a game played in a good spirt between two clubs who have great respect for each other.

Tillside CC 1 point and Ashington Rugby CC 30 points.

Our 2nd team entertained Tynemouth CC in the division 2 clash at the REC, we won the toss and elected to bowl, Craig Jobson and captain Ryan Pringle removed both openers with only 7 runs on the board, before Hodgson and Whiting put on 39 runs, when Whiting fell on 23, we took regular wickets and when Hodgson was out for 26 with the score on 71 and 6 wickets down. Tynemouth was eventually all out for 74 after 33. 3 overs.

Our bowlers who took wickets were; C. Jobson 5 overs, 1 wicket for 23 runs, R. Pringle 7 overs, 4wickets for 26 runs, T. Elliott 10 overs, 2 wickets for 20 runs, D. Wanless Snr 9.3 overs, 1 wickets for 14 runs and L. Dodds  2 overs, 1 wicket for 4 runs.

Our run chase started off badly losing Jay Little in the 6th over with the score on 11 and Jay on 5, Ryan Pringle was the next wicket out in the 9th over with 16 on the board, before Stu Rosser with 53 not out and Kevin Hetherington not out on 27 saw us home, after 32 overs.

Go on the 2nds super win.

Ashington Rugby CC 30 points and Tynemouth CC 1 point.

4 players in League Team
Jul 14, 2016, 7:12 am

Sunday 10th July we had 4 players in the Northumberland League team who played at Bates Cottages CC against the North East Midweek League, our 4 players were Adam Peacock, Cory Milburn, James Richards and Scott (the wicket burgular) Maddison. They helped the league team to another win.

Another record for our club well done lads.

Both teams win in tight games
Jul 14, 2016, 7:09 am

Saturday 9th July saw Corbridge CC 1st team travel to the REC for a Premier League fixture, it was a wet damp day and during the week we had a tremendous thunder storm which only lasted for 45 on Thursday but that was enough to put quite a bit of waiter under our mobile covers.

We lost the toss and was obviously pout into bat and a wicket that did quite a bit for the bowlers, we only had 2 batsmen who got into double figures they were Matty Tanney with a quick fire 14 and Adam Peacock who batted very well for his 52 before falling caught and bowled to spinner Fowler. Our innings only lasted 31.5 overs and we posted 117 all out, we thought that was not enough with the wicket drying out. There bowlers who did the damage was New Zealander Cox with 5 wickets and Garrett with 3.

When Corbridge went to bat we knew we need early wickets and taken quite quickly to put the pressure onto the batters, and this is exactly what we did, they had 5 batsmen who got into double figures including the prize wicket of Fowler who posted 46 before being caught by Peacock off Cory Millburn’s bowling this helped to change the game into our favour. They ended up all out on 111 off 44.1 overs. The relief on all the players faces when Cory (captain) took the final wicket was clear to see. Our Bowling who took wickets, D. Greaves 10 overs, 3 wickets for 24 runs, J. Richards 12 overs, 2 wickets for 12 runs, C. Milburn 9.1 overs, 4 wickets for 26 runs and S. Maddison  7 overs, 1 wicket for 17 runs.

Ashington Rugby CC 26 points and Corbridge CC 6 points.

Our 2nd team travel to Corbdrige for their Division 2 fixture on another damp and wet day our team lost the toss and was put into bat, top scorer was Jay Little with 34, captain Ryan Pringle 26 not out, Keven Hetherington 17, Trevor Elliott 13 and Stu Rosser 12, we ended up 130 for 9 from our 40 overs.

In reply Corbridge scored 96 in 34.1 overs our bowlers who did the damage was, D. Wanless Snr 7 overs, 4 wickets for 14 runs, R. Pringle 10 overs, 3 wickets for 21 runs, L. Dodd’s 3.1 overs, 2 wickets for 7 runs and T. Elliott 6 overs, 1 wicket for 26 runs. Great result.

Corbridge CC 4 points and Ashington Rugby CC 27 points.
