Saturday 30th May saw our 1st Team away to Corbridge CC, on a day when 5 players were still a bit hung over from their visit to the Headingly Test match England V New Zealand. We won the toss and elected to bat, our openers Chris Harwood and Michael Adamson got us off to a good start, Michael was first out for 22 bowled by Hardy. Chris was joined at the crease by Adam Peacock who continued his great form with the bat. Chris batted very well and took his score onto 43 before being caught by Atkinson off the bowling of Ridley. Next in was Paul Milburn who looked to build on last week’s knock, he and Adam started to build another partnership with some quick running between the stumps along with hitting boundaries they opened up the field and runs started to flow. Adam was out on 51 caught on the deep leg side boundary just when he was looking great nick again. Other scores of note were Paul scored 37 and, Jonny Richards 25. We ended up 238 for 7 off our 50 overs. Corbridge CC started off very slowly not looking like they wanted to chase the score down scores of note D. Smurthwaite 35, C. Darling 19 not out, D. Cook 19, D. Hardy 27 not out, at the end of their 50 overs Corbridge score 154 for 9. Our bowlers Graham. Whitworth 3 for 38, Cory Milburn 3 for 36 and Scott Maddison 3 for 50. Ashington RCC won by 84 runs, this being our 4th consecutive win in the league this season. Adam Peacock broke another 1st team record with his 4th consecutive 50 of the season, his scores being 95, 86, 134 and 51. Cordbridge 6 points and Ashington RCC 29 points. Our 2nd team were at home playing Monkseaton CC, who won the toss and elected to bat and who were going along nicely with 80ish on the board for the loss of only 1 wicket and they ended up 119 all out. Kevin Elliott top scored for Monkseaton with a fine 47. The damage was done by our bowlers David Wanless Snr 3 for 22, Craig Jobson 3 for 11 along with Trevor Elliott and Tom Stokoe picking up wickets. Nice to see Tom back in the fold, from his time away at University. Our run chase was very good with Liam Lavery leading the way with 88 not out with some big sixes to cow corner, we eventually won the game for the loss of only 1 wicket with 102 runs on the board. 9 wickets win. Ashington RCC 30 points and Monkseaton CC 1 point. Jun 2, 2015, 7:03 am
David Wanless made his long awaited Northumberland County over 50 debut at the beautiful Darlington Cricket Club ground versus Durham the two time national champions in 2013 and 2014. Northumberland scored 219 for 4 in their 45 overs and that was as far as the game went due to heavy rain the game was abandoned. May 25, 2015, 8:06 am
On Saturday 23rd May, Adam Peacock breaks the clubs highest score he hit a fantastic 134 in our total of 265 for 4 in our 1st team fixture at the “REC”. We lost the toss and Kirkley CC decided to put us into bat on an excellent wicket. We got off to steady start with our two openers Captain Chris Harwood and Michael Adamson. Michael was out first to a full toss which just hit the top of the stumps on 28 and not long later the captain was out for 12 to another poor ball a wide full toss which he hit straight to a fielder in the covers. Now at the crease we had Adam Peacock and Stuart Rosser they continued and built a steady partnership until Rosser was out caught and bowled on 11. Next in was Paul Milburn who gave as much of the strike as he could to Adam who was now in full flow, Adam hit some huge sixes on our big ground along with some lovely touch shots, Adams 100 came off a six to the leg side boundary, he was eventually out in the last over going for another big hit with only 2 balls left in the 50 overs. Adam finished with a classy 134 and his partner Paul finished on 46 not out. Kirkley CC started well W. Asher and Ian Smith opening the bat until Ian was off with a hamstring injury, in came debutant E. Common who along with Asher got on with the run chase on the road they were batting on and took the score to 159 for 0 wickets. Our normal bowling attack who have done so well this season struggled on a batter friendly wicket, until we took the pace off the ball with Scott Maddison bowling spin at one end and Paul Milburn bowling slow medium, they did what was required slowing down the scoring rate and eventually taking wickets they fell to Scott who took 3 quick wickets. W. Asher played well for his 88, E. Common did the same in his 66, our captain brought Dean Greaves and Graham Whitworth back on at the death with Kirkley needing just short of a run a ball, Dean bowled well stump to stump and took 3 wickets 40, Graham took 1 wicket for 53 and Scott Maddison took 3 for 33. Kirkley finished with 261 for 7 only 4 runs short; nerves were jingling for the Rugger boy’s until the final ball was bowled, great match with over 520 runs scored on a great pitch. This win moved the Rugger Boys up to 4th in the Premier League. Ashington RCC 28 points and Kirkley CC 7 points. Our 2nd team was away to Corbridge CC in their Division 2 clash, Corbridge won the toss and elected to bat and posted 148 for 8, J. Jowsey scored 43 with David Wanless Snr taking 3 wickets for 24. Our run chase got off well and we managed to chase down the score for the loss of only 5 wickets. Jay Little hit a fine 48 not out, Liam Lavery scored 32, Steven Henderson 20 and Craig Jobson 18, great win against a good side. Corbridge 4 points Ashington RCC 30 points. Dean made his Northumberland County over 50 Debut on Wednesday at Keswick against Cumbria. He opened the bowling and bowled his maximum 9 overs taking 1 wicket. Northumberland just lost by 6 runs in a tight game on a very damp wicket. May 18, 2015, 1:13 pm Saturday 16th May, saw the 1st team travel to Tillside CC for their Premier League clash. We won the toss and elected to bat on a good looking wicket, we got off to a slow but steady start seeing off the first 10 overs, only to see our first wicket fall with the score on 20, M. Adamson was on 10 before being bowled by Birkett. That brought Adam Peacock to the wicket with Captain Chris Harwood, the building process started again and the score was moving along nicely when Harwood fell on 17 another 2 wickets fell quickly and it was not looking so good. Vice-Captain Cory Milburn came to the crease with an important job to do with Adam. They batted very well together and playing some fine shots when required and hitting the bat ball to the boundary. Adam blasted his way to 86 before falling to a catch in the deep, Cory kept his head with a mature display of bating in his 61 not out with 3 huge sixes. We ended up 231 for 6 off our 50 overs. We had our team talk and it was all about chipping away at the wickets bowling tight lines and not giving anything away in the field and that is what we did great fielding display on the day. Tillside CC always put up a great team display and we knew it would be a great effort to bowl them out as that is what the target was. We took a few early wickets then Tillside built a few partnerships A. Reed with 30, L. Hindmarsh with 36 and J. Birkett who hit a fine 51 with some big sixes included in that knock. Tillside batted well but were eventually all out on 191, our bowling Dean Greaves 2 for 31, James Richards 2 for 39, Scott Maddison 2 for 42, Graham Whitworth 2 for 39 and Cory Milburn 1 for 31. All round great team display we won by 40 runs with 3 overs to spare. This win lift us one place to 6th in the league. Tillside CC 7 points Ashington RCC 30 points Our 2nd team entertain Whitley Bay in a Division 2 match at the REC. Whitley Bay won the toss and elected to bat they scored 141 for 6, G. Ord 34, J. Douglas 37, our top bowler was R. Pringle who took 3 for 17. We chased the score down with L. Lavery and S. Rosser getting us off to a good start and Stu Rosser stayed there until the end scoring 70 not out, we got home with the loss of only 3 wickets. Great display from the Rugger Boys. Point of note Stu Rosser has now turned his hand to cricket following the end of the rugby season where he coaches and plays for Ashington Rugby 1st team. Ashington RCC 28 points Whitley Bay 3 points May 11, 2015, 1:03 pm Saturday 9th May, saw both our club 1st and 2nd teams playing Blue Flames. Weather conditions were poor on Friday and Saturday morning, none stop rain, our covers did a great job keeping the wicket dry. Our problem was areas being soaking wet on the outfield; we used our aerator spiking the affected areas. This did the job and the 1st team eventually got going 1 hour late playing a 40 over match, things don’t change with us as we lost another toss and was put into bat. We lost a wicket early on with a smart one handed catch behind square. This brought Adam Peacock to the wicket to bat with Captain Chris Harwood, we needed a partnership built and that is what the pair did to great aplomb, both passed 50 with some great shots all around ground, when Chris was eventually out on 55 caught by Amin off Myers slow spin bowling, we lost Adam soon after just short of his hundred on 95 also caught on the square boundary by Ali of the bowling of Myers, our total was 162 for 3. The batting order was reorganised and we lost quick wickets leaving the Rugger boys all out for 183 off 38.2 overs. The damage was done by the Flames slow bowlers F. Amin 5 wickets for 22 runs and C. Myers 4 for 19. After the break the team had a pep talk about the importance of taking early wickets and not letting them build any partnerships. We got off to a great start with The Flames losing 3 wickets for 4 runs in only 4 overs. We kept on taking wickets at regular intervals with some good ground fielding. Blue Flames were eventually all out for 65 runs, only R. Chapman on 14 and G. Ishauqe on 22 managed to get to double figures. Our bowlers Dean Greaves 4 wickets for 23 runs, James Richards 4 wickets for 22 runs and Cory Milburn 2 wickets for 9 runs. Great win making all the hard work getting the game on well worth it. We won by 118 runs. Ashington Rugby CC 29 points Blue Flames CC 5 points. Our 2nd team played away travelling with 9 men due to some late cry offs and also being hit with holidays, injuries and work commitments. We batted first scoring 139 with Craig Jobson hitting his first ever 50 in senior cricket finishing on 53. We then bowled out Blue Flames for 107 the David “Dibbly Dobbler” Wanless Snr did the damage with 6 wickets for 25 runs which drove a steak into the heart of the Flames run chase. Great first win of the season for our young captain David Wanless Jnr, he needs to pat his dad on the back for doing the damage. Blue Flames 6 points Ashington Rugby CC 27 points Apr 29, 2015, 8:43 pm Saturday 25th April saw a wet/rainy day the 2nd team game against Warenford CC away was called off early in the day. The 1st's wish they had done the same against Blagdon Park CC, sitting around until 3:30pm, 2 1/2 hours after the start time we got under way in a 35 over match. We lost the toss like we normally do in reduced weather effected game and yes we were put into bat, we lost a wicket with the very first ball of our innings, then in came Adam Peacock to partner Midge they got off to a great start and we were in the 60s when Adam went for a big hit and was caught out on the long boundary for 42 in a innings litter with some great shots, including a huge straight six which hit the Rugby club house wall (long way). With his wicket seemed to go the run rate and wickets fell at regular intervals, only Chris Harwood on 15 and Michael (Midge) Adamson with 17 were the only ones to get into double figures. We had 2 wickets fall with a first ball and 1 for a second ball, this hit us hard and never really got going after Adam's wicket we ended up all out for 122. Blagdons bowling Johnson 3 wickets for 18 runs and J Concannon 4 wickets for 7 runs. Blagdon took their time and slowly built a score D Gibson did the damage, he scored 62 not out and Blagdon CC won by 7 wickets. Our bowling Dean Greaves 1 wicket for 25 runs and Cory Milburn 2 wickets for 25 runs. Ashington RCC 2 points Blagdon Park CC 30 points. |
