The 1st team lost the toss on a poor looking wicket and you guessed it we were put into bat, captain Harwood was the only one to really occupy the crease for any length of time he scored 22, Adam Peacock could do nothing with a ball which shot along the ground. Cory Milburn top scored with 24 before falling to Mukhtar, the return of Graham Whitworth (Flinty) stood his ground and hit some lovely straight drives in his 18 not out, we should also mention Dean Greaves straight hit 6 in his cameo. We eventually fell all out for 165 off 35 overs just as well for GEMS as they only had 10 to 15 minutes left to bowl their remaining 15 odd overs, 47 extras helped cause the delay with over 35 wide’s being bowled. We needed to get off to a good start and Dean Greaves provided it with 2 LBW’s in the first over, H Mohammed helped pull together their innings with a fine 50 before falling to Cory Milburn. S Shar scored 21, F Ahmed 17, A Muktar 19 kept the score turning over. However the Rugger boys bowling attack kept taking wickets at regular intervals which eventually end up with GEMS all out on 139. Our bowlers Dean Greaves 3 wickets for 17, James Richards 1 wicket for 50, Cory Milburn 3 wickets for 23 and Graham Whitworth 3 wickets for 32. Ashington Rugby Cricket Club ended up winning by 36 runs. GEMS 7 points and Ashington RCC 28 Points. Our 2nd team won the toss on a good looking wicket at the REC and elected to bat, we lost a few early wickets before Kevin Hetherington and Jay Little put on a great stand Kevin ended up on 40 and Jay ended up 65 not out, we ended up with 174 for 6 wickets in 40 0vers. Stobswood CC started well in their chase only bowler from the Rugger boys who did any damage was David Wanless Jnr who ended up with 5 wickets for 30 runs, in his first game back for the club after a few years from his employment jaunt down in Hull. Our ground fielding was not good and this let us down. Stobswood ended up winners hitting the winning run with 7 balls left of their innings finishing 176 for 7 wickets. D. Townsley hit 35 and A Toddhunter hit 48 helping Stobswood to take the victory by 3 wickets. Ashington RCC 6 points and Stobswood CC 26 points. There will be a good crowd in as it is the rugby clubs last game of the season. See poster. Lets make a night of it!!!!!!!!!!!! Apr 3, 2015, 8:46 pm Our friendly on 11th April is in doubt, due to the weather, apart from cross over rolling done a while ago nothing else can be done at the ground as it is soaking wet. The game is 95% off as we look at it now, and it does not look good for the season starting the following week if the weather does not change, we need the sun and lots of sun to come out and the rain to go away. MATCH CANCELLED Mar 30, 2015, 9:03 pm Cricket square has had 8 cross over passes with our roller, still more to do when the weather allows. Cricket square has been set up with the old 3,4,5 method, T box lines marking out each wicket (15 in total) Cricket square has had its fertiliser applied. Boundary line has been set up using string lines and marked with our transfer wheel marker. Mar 29, 2015, 2:58 pm
