Cutting the Square
Oct 28, 2013, 10:02 pm

Sunday 27th October saw our grounds man cutting the square for the first time since we did our end of season work. We moved our germination sheets for the last time to cover our practice strips before they are put away for the winter.

We cut our square down to approx. 20 to 25mm with a rotary mover. This is the best growth of grass we have every had and we are very pleased that the weather has been good to us not like last year when the majority of our grass seed was washed into the outfield with all the rain and the subsequent floods.

2013 Season Sum Up
Oct 6, 2013, 7:27 pm

The 1st team finished 2nd bottom of the Premier League, which was just enough to hold onto our status in the top league, we finished with 6 wins, 1 more than the team above us (who we beat twice during the season home and away) however they picked up more bonus points. This result will give our club a 3rd consecutive year in the top league which is a club record.

2nd Team had a very good season with the clubs highest every finish with 3rd in the Divison 2 League just 4 points behind Blagdon Park the team in second place, who we beat at their place this season, both team finished with 14 wins.

Midweek team finished mid table in the League and won the RE Wood Shield.

Over all a great year for the club, the most enjoyable bit is the development of our youngsters, who have come on leaps and bounds this year and it looks good for the club next season if they can keep on improving.

Hopefully with a few new faces next season we will be able to compete more in the 1st team games which will also then straighten our second 2nd team.

Final game ends in defeat
Sep 23, 2013, 9:12 pm

1st’s travelled to Stocksfield looking for 4 wins on the bounce, we lost the toss and Stocksfield elected to bat, early on Cory Milburn took wickets and disrupted their start, however in came Alex Brown on the back of his 105 at our place he built an inning’s and played some very fine shots, we tried everything we had but could not get him out he finished with 107 not out and his 100 came off a big six back over the bowlers head, with only 2 balls left in their innings, they ended up 229 for 9.

Our bowling Dean Greaves 12 overs, 1 wicket for 34 runs, Cory Milburn 13 overs, 3 wickets for 51 runs, Lewis Tanney 13 overs, 4 wickets for 76 runs and Matty Tanney 12 overs, 1 wicket for 61 runs.

We went into bat with confidence of our previous 3 games of chasing scores; however we lost wickets at regular intervals and found it hard to get going mainly through the quality of the bowling. Ben Hutton bowled very well quickly with a lot of late swing he took 4 wickets in 9.3 overs for only 27 runs. Matty Tanney hit a quick fire 20, Cory Milburn 20 and Lewis Tanney 25 were the only batsmen who scored above 20. We ended up all out for 124. Disappointed showing but at least we showed some sprit in the final 4 games and survived in the league for another season which is a great effort for our club.

Stocksfield CC 30 points and Ashington RCC 5 points.

Club on a roll
Sep 18, 2013, 9:12 pm

1st's away to Bates Cottages 14th September, after 2 wins in a row the club has given its self a chance of staying up. We won the toss and put them in and we had them 2 down for only 9 runs on the board including the dangerous Symington who hit 96 at our place earlier on in the season.

With the help of some big hitting from Baston the score moved on quickly, if only Paul Milburn could have held a catch off Baston earlier in his innings when he was only on a few, however Midge took 3 catches including Baston off Bernie Tanney who came around the wicket and his first ball did the damage leaving Bates on 66 for 6. The last pair of Telford and Gragg put on 30 runs to take them to all out for 147.

Dean Greaves 13 overs, 4 wickets for 27 runs, Lewis Tanney 13 overs, 3 wickets for 39 runs and Matty Tanney 4 overs, 2 wickets for 20 runs.

Matty Tanney Opened with Dean Hardy and they put on 43 for the first wicket before Dean parted on 12, Matty continued and he eventually fell on 52 with the score on 85 for 3. Cory Milburn and Lewis Tanney as they have done a number of times this season built a good partnership Cory finished on 20 off 24 balls with 4 / 4s, Lewis finished on 34 not out off 41 balls with 3 / 4s and 2 / 6s we finished on 148 for 6 winning our 3rd game in a row.

Ashington RCC 27 points and Bates Cottages 5 points.

2nd team playing at home finished the season with another win which leaves them 3rd in Division 2, the highest finish every by our club.

We won the toss and put in Bomarsund and we had them all out for 126 with David Wanless Jnr 10 overs, 3 wickets for 35 runs, Craig Jobson 9 overs, 2 wickets for 28 runs and David Wanless Snr 10 overs, 2 wickets for 16 runs with 5 maidens.

Mick Watson finished 52 not out, G, Pattinson 35 and Jonny Richards finished 16 not out we won by 9 wickets.

Ashington RCC 30 points and Bomarsund 3 points.

1st Fight for win
Sep 8, 2013, 10:50 pm

Saturday 7th September saw Warkworth CC visit the "Rec" for a very important game for the club, with us standing bottom of the league 11 points from safety. After nearly 2 solid days of rain, the night before we had a pond at least 60 yards by 30 yards in the outfield and we thought we would not get the game on however at 7:30 on Saturday morning it had all gone. The umpire wanted the bowlers end forked at the top end and we had to wait for 30 minutes thus reducing the game to 45 overs.

We eventually won the toss and put Warkworth into bat, right from the start tight bowling from Dean Greaves and attacking bowling from Cory Milburn had the away team on the back foot. Following both bowlers 12 overs spells, Greaves had 12 overs 0 wickets for 14 runs and Milburn had 12 overs 7 wickets for 33 runs (great spell of attacking pace bowling taking the first 7 wickets to fall with 5 of those wickets being bowled). At one stage Warkworth were 40 for 6, however Adam Hall and Clarky steadied the ship and saw them through to 114 for 9.

We got off to a poor start with 2 wickets down in the first 4 overs, Hall and Clark bowled well with a lot of swing causing all of our players problems, however when Cory Milburn and Lewis Tanney two 19 year olds came to the crease it look bleak for the Rugger Boys they batted well getting their heads down and built a good partnership to settle the teams nerves Cory scored 38 and Lewis 26, when they both fell the nerves kicked in again only to be calmed by Bernie (Where's Bully) Tanney to hit the winning runs with 8 wickets down.

Ashington RCC 25 points and Warkworth CC 5 points, this lifted the club off the bottom of the table that is 2 wins in 2 weeks.
