League Under 21s
Sep 3, 2013, 1:48 pm

Lewis Tanney and Cory Milburn played in the final for the Northumberland League against a very strong North Yorkshire and South Durham Premier League (NYSDPL) at Whitburn CC on 1st September 2013 batting 1st the team found it hard going eventually being bowled out for 102 only 3 players managed to get into double figures and Lewis and Cory both did their bit Lewis scored 35 and Cory 20, against a very strong bowling attack.

The NYSDPL made light work and scored the winning run in the 11 over one player finished 70 not out with some very powerfull hitting. A hard day at the office but that happens hopefully our lads learned something. This team was a stongest side our Chairman had seen for many a year just got to take your hat off to them a very good team.

1st Team fight hard for a win.
Sep 3, 2013, 1:35 pm

1st Travelled to Kirkley on 31st August, desperately needing a win to give the club a chance to get out of the relegation zone. We won the toss and inserted Kirkley into bat Cory Milburn took a wicket in his 3rd over removing I. Smith for 6, this brought M. Nicholson and C. Rowe together who steadily built a partnership, Nicholson was his normal brutal self he hit 11 scoring shots of those there was 4 sixes and 4 fours he eventually fell on 43 to the relief of the Rugger boys after Midge took a catch (yes a catch) off Cory’s bowling . C. Rowe batted sensibly for his 59 before bowled by Matty Tanney, A Storey hit 29 and J. Richie 22 Kirkley CC were eventually all out for 195 off 43 overs. The pick of the bowlers were M. Tanney 9 overs 4 wickets for 22 runs and C. Milburn 13 overs 4 wickets for 48 runs.

When we started our innings M. Tanney and M. Adamson (Midge) got off to a great start with 31 runs on the board after 3 overs , M. Tanney fell for 23 with the score on 57, that brought K. Hetherington (Tucker) to the wicket he scored 13 before falling LBW to A. Storey (Beefy) with the score on 75. This brought P. Milburn and M. Adamson together who steadily built a partnership of 96 before Midge fell on 77, shortly afterwards P. Milburn fell for 35 both off M. Nicholson’s bowling. This left Rob Clark and Cory Milburn to see us through to the win Rob finished on 15 Not Out and Cory 10 Not Out. Kirkley CC 6 points and Ash 30 points, the team were on a high until they heard the news that Blue Flames had seen of Berwick CC, no change with the table.

2nds Win Again
Sep 3, 2013, 1:34 pm

2nd team continue their good run of form at the “Rec” on 31st August and cemented their place 2nd in the league, even with a weakened team playing due to work and holiday commitments we were still too strong for Monkseaton 2nds. We won the toss and put in the visitors into bat we bowled them out in 25.2 overs, the damage done by young Craig Jobson who took 5 wickets for 32 runs off his 10 overs, D Wanless Snr 8.2 overs 2 wickets for 9 runs. Only J. Ellis on 18 and T. Errington with 14 runs got into double figures, finishing all out for 66 runs.

Our batters made light work of the total winning in 17.2 overs, M. Watson 22, M. Hudson 24 got the Rugger Boys off to a good start and left it to S. Henderson and C. Jobson to score the winning runs. 30 Points to Ash and 1 to Monkseaton.

Spinners do the damange
Aug 1, 2013, 12:56 pm

Tillside arrived at the “Rec” in good shape standing 3rd in the league looking to take on the 1st team. We won the toss and batted on a dry wicket and Tillside spinners did the damage bowling out the Rugger boys for 115. Their 3 spinners took 8 of the 10 wickets to fall with 1 to a seamer and 1 run out. Only Lewis Tanney for 23 and Paul Milburn for 39 scored any decent of runs.

Tillside reached the total for the loss of 3 wickets and all of those wickets that fell to our spinner Scott Maddison. We need to put together partnerships and be careful with shot selection.

Tillside 30 points and Ashington 2 points.

1st's back down to earth
Aug 1, 2013, 12:48 pm

1st’ s made the long trip to Berwick looking for a repeat performance from last week. We lost the toss and Berwick decided to bat on a very green track (strange). Our bowlers did not help themselves by bowling to wide and giving the Berwick bats a chance to free their arms, only Dean Greaves bowled well enough to trouble the home team he bowled 11 overs took 2 wickets for 26 runs. Only their captain L. Mark who finished got 54 not out and their opening bat N. Permachanda who scored 41 got in and going before the wicket started to misbehave and bounce alarmingly after approx 35 overs. Berwick finished on 209 for 6.

Ash once again did not get going on a wicket which was deteriorating quickly (now we know why the home team batted 1st on a green track) Only Matty Tanney who scored 37 seemed to get in, only 3 others managed to get to double figures. We ended all out for 101 poor showing by our batsmen.

Berwick 30 points Ashington 4 points.

The Flames Extinguished
Jul 31, 2013, 1:11 pm

A must win game for Ash with the visit of Blue Flames on Saturday 6th July 2013, Flames won the toss and batted on a very hot day at the “Rec”. The Rugger boys had thoughts of a hard day in the field with the red hot weather, however the bowlers got into their rhythm early on and regularly took wickets which prevented Blue Flames building a partnership of any sort, finishing all out for 125 from 39 overs. Dean Greaves took 4 wickets for 28 off his 13 overs, Cory Milburn took 2 wickets for 44 off his 10 overs and Matty Tanney took 4 wickets for 26 off his 12.2 overs.

Ashington took to the wicket to chase the runs down with the word in the ear of occupy the crease and the runs will come. We lost our 1st wicket on 23, 2nd wicket on 46 with Midge falling on 22, and our 3rd wicket on 63 this then brought together Dean Hardy the opening bat and Paul Milburn who batted right through to win the game for the home team, Dean finished 43 not out and Paul 32 not out, it was important not to lose any more wickets and give the Flames any more points as they are our nearest rivals in the relegation dog fight.

Ashington 30 points Blue Flames 3 points

Bates enjoy the "Rec" track
Jul 31, 2013, 12:57 pm

Bates Cottages arrived at the Rec for their 1st team fixture against the Rugger Boys on Saturday 29th June 2013 and to our surprise they decided to bowl after winning the toss on what proved to be a very good batting track. The word of the captain ringing in the players ears “Bat in Partnerships” seemed to have an effect as the first wicket fell on 42 in the 12th over, Vice-captain Midge came to the crease and built partnerships with M. Tanney who scored 30, P. Milburn 18, and Rob Clark 20 before Midge fell for 58. E ended 223 for 9 off 50 overs.

Bates lost their 1st wicket on 6 in the 3rd over, however that brought Ross Symington to the crease who batted very well and looked in no trouble at all he was then joined by M. Walton who together put on 141 runs as a partnership and this took the game away from the Rugger boys. Symington fell on 95 bowled by M. Tanney and Walton was caught on 84 by L. Tanney and bowled by his dad Bernie. Bates eventually finished 227 for 6 to win the game, with 14 overs to spare.

Bates 29 points and Ash 8 points.
