New club name for 2010
Jan 3, 2010, 1:30 pm

2010 brings a new name for our club following 10 years being named after the Northern Social Club, we would like to thank the Social Club for their support over the last 10 years.

However the new name of Ashington Rugby Cricket Club brings new optimism to our club, we have played cricket at the Ashington Recreation Ground "Rec" or more commonly known as the Rugby Ground for over 25years and in this time we have worked closely together in managing the facilities.

The Rugby club gives our members its first real club house since our conception back in 1982, no more will visiting and home players have to travel away from the facilities to enjoy a after match drink. We have used the club facilities before and they offer a club house to be proud of especially following its recent refurbishment.

With a new name brings a complete new clothing range which our club will subsides its members with the members only having to play a quarter of the actuall costs, this generous offer will give all its members a chance to play in the new clubs name clothing.

SITA Trust Grant Aid Supports all user of the "Rec"
Nov 26, 2009, 7:47 am

 P1010726     P1010716     P1010717

Our club was awarded grant aid to the sum of £20K from the SITA Trust Enhancing Communities Large Grants Scheme. This money was put to good use in purchasing a ISEKI Compact Tractor with Grass Cutting Discharge Deck and Grass Collecting with dump facilities.

This tractor will be used to support the various clubs who use the "Rec" such as Ashington Rugby Club, Green Lane Archers, Ellington Juniors Football Club and ourselves.

We need to work together to continue to provide good facilities to be proud of and this Tractor goes a long way in doing so. Without this tractor we the users would have struggled to maintain the vast grassed areas we have at our disposal.

On behalf of all the user groups Northern Social Cricket Club would like to offer our many thanks to SITA Trust, it is hard to put into words how much this grant means to all of us.

Veterans Match 30th August 2009
Sep 6, 2009, 12:09 pm

P1010654

Veterans team photo back row right to left: Alex Frodsham, Richard Peacock, Ken Ward, Alan Pearson, Peter Rollinson, Michael Davidson, Steve Adams, Willy Clark. Front Row: Jim Peacock (capt), George Rogerson, John Brown, Lloyd Julien.

Jim Peacock brough his band of merry men back to their old patch to show off their skills. The vets won the toss that never was and decided to bat on a great track leaving the young guns out in the field trying to show the old gang that they were worthy members of the club.

Steve Adams showed he still had runs in him as he opened the batting, Alex Frodsham showed he still had all the skils as he was back to his old stomping ground as he had travelled up from Northants just for this game. Michael Davidson also known as bam bam for his stylish shots and Willy "One Step" Clark and Peter "Rubber Hips" Rollinson help push the score along with some powerful hitting.

Then came the young guns who eased passed the vets score with 15 year old Scott Maddison leading way top scoring before retiring to give other players a chance. The vets best bowlers was Alan "Skip" Pearson and Jim "The Hoover" Peacock who put the ball in the right spots to cause problems.

The vets suffered a number of hamstring injuries trying to run around like they used to do as they say you can take cricket out of the man but not the man out of cricket.

A great day was had by all especially in the bar afterwards talking about old times. Well done the vets it was great to see you back in your whites.

End of Season Work
Aug 26, 2009, 6:03 pm

9:00am Saturday 19th September 2009 see's our club undertake our annual event of end of season cricket square renovation work.

Which includes scarfication, areation, seeding, fertilsing and 100 bags of Surrey loam to spread on the 15 strips on our square. Our groundsman needs support with the manual tasks, as usual we hope for a good turnout, remember the work we put in now pays dividends during the playing season.

As the saying goes "you only get out what you put in" so lets make the effort for our club.
