Our home ground is under water with the none stop rain, the water table has hardly went down from our last heavy rain fall and this rain has just topped it up, at this rate we will be struggling to get a game on at the "Rec" next week. May 10, 2012, 10:18 pm What have we done wrong? Any more rain and we will need to call out the lifeboat. We are meant to host Stocksfield on Saturday at the "Rec" our groundsman cannot see that taking place. Have a look at the photos below. Our capatin said he will come over with a fork on Saturday, if he brings his knife and spoon it will still not make a difference, no harm in trying. May 10, 2012, 9:59 pm Saturday 5th May saw the 1st travelled to Bates Cottages we lost the toss and were put in to bat we only managed 69 all out, with Dean Hardy making the only real score for the team. We went on the pitch to bowl with the intention of making it as hard as possible for Bates and that is just what the captain did, Dean Greaves bowled a great spell taking 5 for 24. Bates won the game but only after losing 6 wickets. 2nd Team welcomed Bates at the Rec, Bates won the toss and elected to bat they made 109 for 4 from their 40 overs with their opener making 73 not out. The rugger boys made a good start early on and got bogged down in the middle and late order but eventually won with 1 over to spare after losing 6 wickets. Stephen Henderson top scored for the rugger boys only to be run out in a strange way, he was to busy playing with his box and his equipment instead of looking to see that he was not over the crease line. "What a Balls Up" Midweek team entertained Blyth on Wednesday 9th May at the Rec with our new young captain and vice captain in charge for there 1st game not bad for 2 - 18 year olds. We won the toss and elected to bat and posted a score to 83 for 7 off 16 overs, with Cory Milburn and Matty Tanney putting on a useful partnership. Blyth chased the score but fell only 2 runs short in a good game, great start for the "Young Guns". 1st Team played Blue Flames in the Birkett Cup on Tuesday 8th May, batting first we manged only 76 and 5 of those were penalty runs for Flames taking 10 minutes over their allotted time to bowl 16 overs. Run outs crippled our attempt to put on a decent score, only Chris Harwood made a score. Blue Flames time their run chase and got home in the 14th over with the loss of only 3 wickets. May 1, 2012, 11:50 pm The bottom part of our outfield next to the rugby club house is saturated, when you walk on the outfield water splashes around your feet. We can only pray for the rain to stop and the sun or the wind to get up to help the ground to dry out. At this rate with no improvement in the weather we will be lucky to have a game on Saturday. May 1, 2012, 11:32 pm Culpitt, a Ashington based company has agreed to sponsor our club for the 2012 season, we have close ties with the company as we have 4 of our members who work for them. Apr 25, 2012, 8:23 pm All three teams have been hit with the weather in the first week of the season with no games played at all. Looking at the ground and the weather in the next few days we will be more likely to be able to paddle a canoe at the rugby club end than play a game of cricket. We can only hope for sun, rain, rain go away come back another day!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Apr 20, 2012, 10:32 pm What a week, only able to do any ground work on Monday and Tuesday this week. Covers on since Wednesday. Our outfield and square is soaking wet, pools of water everywhere. Will inspect in the morning however it does not look good. |
