Record Breaker Milly
May 13, 2009, 8:24 pm

Veteran all rounder Paul Milburn on Saturday returned the astonishing figures of 10 for 11 including a hat trick in 5.5 overs as Tynemouth were dismissed for only 21 in a 143 run victory for the 1st team at the Rec.

Asked to open the bowling into a stiff breeze after it was decided to use both regular openers from the same end 'Milly' bowled with skill, accuracy and determination to achieve this incredible feat.  In the process the man sometimes known as 'Mr Northern' bettered the previous record for best bowling figures ever in the Northumberland League a record that had stood since 1966.

Fittingly for Paul and the Milburn Clan oldest son Callum was on hand making his 1st team seasonal debut to witness his fathers heroics and youngest son Cory excitedly chalked the book as the drama unfolded.

It should be said that if the phrase 'you only get out what you put in' applies to Paul then this is fitting reward for all the time and effort he puts in to make sure the club continues to run.  In addition to being a fine all rounder Paul is chairman of the club, groundsmen and Junior coordinator and continues to work hard on securing vital funding through various grant applications.

So Paul if you have time to visit this web site huge congratulations from all players and officials at the club on your marvellous achievement and many thanks for everything you have done and continue to do do so people can enjoy their cricket in our club.

New Beginnings
Apr 25, 2009, 6:10 am
Saturday sees the return of competitive Saturday cricket for both of our clubs sides.   The 1st team will hope to at least get at least a start against their local rivals Stobswood at the Rugby Club after the last 5 encounters have been washed out without a ball being bowled while the 2nds face a daunting trip to champions Whitley Bay in the Beverley Smith Cup.

Once again this season we we will have arguably the best playing facilities in all 3 divisons and thanks must go to Groundsman Paul for the long shifts he has already put in up there to get it in its current state.

Chris Harwood will captain the 1st team again for the 4th season assisted by Dean Greaves while Steve Henderson and Rob Clark do the honours for the 2nd's after steering a young side to promotion last season.

The club will have to do without the services of Matty Storey this season who has re joined Ashington, Martin Seccombe who has relocated to Derby and Nigel Little Jnr (Bomarsund) and Snr (Retired).

In come batsmen Michael Watson (who's debut will be delayed due to tendonitis in the elbow) Seamer Kirk Newton and Spinner Dan Jordan, the latter will make their 1st team debuts on Saturday.

Good win for young guns!
Apr 25, 2009, 5:46 am

A youthful Midweek side picked up theirs and the clubs 1st competitive win of the season against Warkworth on Wednesday night.

James Richards side managed 96 off their 16 overs with runs shared round evenly, the captain himself top scoring (yes really).

In reply Warkworth managed only 89 to leave our lads victors by six runs with 15 year old seamer Tom Stokoe the pick of the bowlers.

All in all an excellent start from the lads who fielded only 3 players over the age of 20 and fair play to Warkworth also who put out a similarly youthful side.   Lets hope other clubs in the division will follow the example set on Wednesday night and a competitive season with young players developing could be on the cards.

Fireworks from Captain Tanney in pre season Friendly
Apr 25, 2009, 5:35 am

Matty Tanney smashed an incredible four sixes in the final over of the inter club friendly; the traditional season curtain raiser to win it for his side.   Callum Milburn was the unlucky bowler going for 26 when victory looked assured!

On a bright but chilly day 18 Year olds Tanney and James Richards were given the opportunity to captain the two sides in preparation for them leading the midweek team this season.

‘Team Richards' batted 1st scoring 156 for 7 off their allotted 32 overs, the ‘evergreen' Kevin Hetherington lead the way with 43 backed up by an encouraging knock of 32 from 16 year old Chris Smiles with notable contributions also coming from ‘Midge' Adamson and a late Cameo from Davey Wanless Snr.   Six bowlers were used, the pick of them being new signing Kirk Newton who extracted some extravagant movement from the pitch!

A circumspect beginning from ‘team Tanney' by openers Dean Hardy and Mick Watson against some accurate bowling from Dean Greaves and Richards saw the scoreboard tick slowly along until the introduction of the change bowlers.   Watson was run out but Hardy supported by Paul Milburn then Chris Harwood manoeuvred his side within sight of victory.   However once Hardy retired at 50 and Harwood lost his stumps to Callum Milburn the pendulum swung once more leaving Lewis Tanney accompanying his brother Matty at the crease to witness his final over heroics!

A good day was had by all and some useful game time accrued for those able to play!

Another member joins our junior coaching team
Mar 21, 2009, 8:01 am
Well done Chris Grey on passing your UKCC level 1 Coaching Badge.

What is great to see is the development of our club with the younger members looking to take an active role in supporting the club with its junior coaching.

We must at this stage pass our thanks to the British Beer and Pub Association for funding our recent coaching courses with grant aid.

Groundsman starts early this season
Mar 1, 2009, 8:56 pm
Saturday 28th February our groundsman must of had plenty time on his hands, he was seen at the ground at 8:00am with his toys out!!!!!!!!!!!!

The square had its first roll and its early season treatment with fertillzer.

Then the outfiled had its first cut and it looks good, last year we left it too late and ended up raking the loose grass, not this year.

Youngest Captain and Vice Captain in club history
Feb 25, 2009, 11:45 pm
Following our recent club AGM James Richards and Mathew Tanney both only just turned 18 years of age were elected as Captain and Vice Captain respectively for our midweek team who play on Wednesday evenings.

We aim to follow on from previous seasons and give our juniors the chance to play senior cricket. If you do not give them a try out how will they get the chance to show what they are made of.

This year we will probably field the youngest team in the competition, the problem will be transporting the lads to the games (parents be warned)

Remember it is not all about winning it is about developing our younger members into senior cricket as they are our life blood of the club.
