Davey Wanless Jnr took a wicket with his first ball in 1st team cricket and added a further scalp to finish with two as did Matty Storey and James Richards. Warkworth finished on a formiddable 149 for 7 against Northern's youthful attack which lost Dean Greaves and Matty Tanney to injury part way through the innings to further hamper procedings. In reply Paul Milburn set about the Warkworth attack with an array of powerful drives and at 70 for 1 at the halfway stage an upset looked possible. However once Milburn fell for 42 and Skipper Harwood for 25 the innings started to lose impetus until Ian Fox bashed a quick 22 leaving Matty and Duncan Storey needing 22 off the final two. A big six from Matty left the Northern needing 10 off the last and then 5 off 4 balls but two run outs meant that the Northern just couldn't quite push theselves over the line an ended up losing by the odd run.
A somewhat patched up team can be proud of their efforts in giving one of the premier leagues better teams a real scare and in particular David Wanless with the ball, Matty Storey with both and Paul Milburn with the bat.
The 1sts now travel to their second home at Blagdon on Saturday while the 2nds entertain Cramlington at the rec - team news to follow......... May 26, 2008, 9:35 am

TIPPLE May 20, 2008, 9:39 pm Blagdon 106 for 9 beat Northern 92 for 9.
After getting off to a quick start, Blagdon found run scoring difficult after some tight bowling from Greaves, Milburn and Richards and ended on 106.
Northern never really got going with only Milburn and Adamson showing signs of run scoring. Wickets continued to fall at a steady pace as we stumbled to 92 for 9 from the 20 overs.
Our debut in the Smithson cup had to be cancelled due to the lack of loyalty from our members who, agreed at the AGM that it was a good idea to enter this competition. May 19, 2008, 7:00 pm Tuesday and Wednesday of this week see's the 1's visiting Blagdon then Corbridge on consecutive nights. Hopefully we can continue our unbeaten run when we visit Blagdon after our success two weeks ago on the same ground.
Wednesday see's a difficult trip to Corbridge, as the club make their debut in the Smithson Cup. A win over the Premier League side will set up a trip to South Northumberland in the next round. May 18, 2008, 8:43 am
