MS Jun 17, 2008, 8:42 pm NSCC 1st team hammered Monkseaton at the rec on Saturday. After Harwood won the toss and decided to bat Northern scored 273 for 5 from their 50 overs. "Tucker" Hetherington 80, "Midge" Adamson 58, Chris Harwood 58no and Martin Seccombe 32no.
Monkseaton could only manage 188 all out with Duncan Storey the surprise of the NSCC attack taking 4 for 33 including the prize wicket of Monky skipper Beevers.
The one's visit Stobswood on Saturday with the reverse fixture being held at the rec for the 2nd teams. Jun 10, 2008, 5:45 pm Saturday saw both teams win in style. The 1st XI visited Tynemouth 3rd's at Prior's Park and the 2nd string hosted Monkseaton 3rd's.
The first team put on 197 for 6 in their 50 overs with Paul Milburn the only batsman to pass 50. In reply Tynemouth could only manage 61 in reply with Greaves picking up 4 wickets and Matty Storey taking 3 wickets in four balls of his first over to clean out the tail.
The 2nd XI made it two wins in two weeks beating Monkseaton by ten wickets. Andy Mathews taking 6 wickets as the away side were bowled out for 52. Mick Hudson scoring 40 not out as Northern easily reached 55 for no wicket
Saturday see's Monkseaton 1st XI visit the rec and the second eleven visit New Hartley. May 29, 2008, 10:17 pm The 2's took a hammering from Warkworth 2nd team to make it a double this week at the castle ground.
Northern struggled to 80 all out with some indifferent umpiring and some interesting bowling from the Alnwick & District side. With Milburn, Clark, Henderson and Tipple all being bowled by the experienced Warkworth attack and two decisions being given the home sides way to dismiss Seccombe lbw and Little Snr caught from a ball which bounced first it was left to 15 year old Lewis Tanney the main contributor with 17, showing the older members of the team how its meant to be done. Another 15 year old Tom Stokoe showed some resistance at the end batting well and helping NSCC to 80 all out after 19.4 overs.
Nigel Little Jnr bowling very well without any success and some sharp bowling from Andy Matthews delayed the inevitable and Warkworth crossed the line in the 11th over without losing a wicket.
Arnie Gilholm officiated the match and stated that he was very impressed by our young side and that it was a pleasure to watch a club with a big future.
The side consisted of no fewer than 6 players under the age of 16!
May 29, 2008, 9:53 pm Here's a few shot selections from the Two's game on Saturday away to Clara Vale. There's certainly...........some good................some bad................and some..........
May 28, 2008, 9:29 am The 1st XI almost pulled off the biggest shock in the clubs history at Warkworth last night in the Thomas Wilson Memorial Cup. Davey Wanless Jnr took a wicket with his first ball in 1st team cricket and added a further scalp to finish with two as did Matty Storey and James Richards. Warkworth finished on a formiddable 149 for 7 against Northern's youthful attack which lost Dean Greaves and Matty Tanney to injury part way through the innings to further hamper procedings. In reply Paul Milburn set about the Warkworth attack with an array of powerful drives and at 70 for 1 at the halfway stage an upset looked possible. However once Milburn fell for 42 and Skipper Harwood for 25 the innings started to lose impetus until Ian Fox bashed a quick 22 leaving Matty and Duncan Storey needing 22 off the final two. A big six from Matty left the Northern needing 10 off the last and then 5 off 4 balls but two run outs meant that the Northern just couldn't quite push theselves over the line an ended up losing by the odd run.
A somewhat patched up team can be proud of their efforts in giving one of the premier leagues better teams a real scare and in particular David Wanless with the ball, Matty Storey with both and Paul Milburn with the bat.
The 1sts now travel to their second home at Blagdon on Saturday while the 2nds entertain Cramlington at the rec - team news to follow......... |
